The Thevar/Devar wedding rituals are followed in a ceremonial manner in keeping with traditions. The Muhuruthum ceremony refers to the auspicious time of the ceremony and is decided as per astrology. Thalikettu is the highlight of the Thevar wedding. The bride wears finery and sits alongside the groom whereupon blessings of the elders are sought and the groom ties a thali or mangalsutra across the bride's neck. Following the tying of the Thali, the bride sits on the left of the groom. Kulavaidal is another very important wedding ritual whereby women present at the wedding raise a chant called kulavai. Couples also exchange garlands in a ceremony known as Maalai matral and once the couple performs saptapadi, the ceremony is complete.
