Vanniyar is a prosperous and intelligent community in Tamil Nadu. The Vaniyar wedding is held at the bride's residence. The bridegroom places auspicious items such as flowers and jewels along with the milk money or mulapal kuli on the thamboolam at the start of the ceremony. Milk money is provided to the bride's mother for having nourished the soon to be wife. Following this, the Bow and the Sword ceremony is performed. The marriage dais is elaborately decorated and a milk post is placed along with the ornamental light called alankara-vilakku. This is followed by the Nalangu ceremony and the Manjathanni and the chunam arathi. Finally the tying of the Kaganam(thread), Thali( Mangalsutra) and the Pattam (gold or silver plates) are carried out and the ceremony reaches its conclusion.
